Sparkle Ball 2016

EVENT DETAILS

On 7th May 2016, over 250 guests attended our third Sparkle Ball - held at The Royal Exchange in Bank, London. This breathtakingly beautiful historic building played host to our most glamorous event to date. The standard of sophistication and style was set with the celebrated Indian fashion designer Anju Modi showcasing her stunning pieces from the hit Bollywood film Baijrao Mastani (starring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh) in a bespoke fashion show. Guests were wowed by the exquisite designs, which were shown in a mystical setting adorned with striking natural plants.

Guests then enjoyed an elaborate dinner of innovative vegetarian Italian dishes – a meal full of gastronomic artistry in the form of edible potted plants and intricate flourishes. A silent auction gave everyone the opportunity to bid for some fantastic prizes and experiences, with all proceeds going to our Food For Education Programme. Leading BBC Radio duo Sunny and Shay kept the audience entertained and introduced a range of speakers throughout the evening, who shared their experiences of partnering with Akshaya Patra. We were delighted to have Shamil Thakrar – founder of our restaurant partner Dishoom, and our Trustee and long-term supporter Peter Marano speak about their recent journeys visiting our state of the art kitchens and partner schools in India. The memorable evening was brought to a captivating end with a special musical performance by Sounds of the Sufis in one of their first UK appearances.
