You Can Reach New Heights for Akshaya Patra

EVENT DETAILS

GOING THE EXTRA MILE FOR FOOD FOR EDUCATION

Karen from our corporate partner Urban Exposure is a keen runner, and decided she wanted to go the extra mile to enable us to expand our Food For Education Programme. Karen took on the world famous London Marathon in 2016 for Akshaya Patra, and completed the course in an impressive time.

Karen and Urban Exposure worked hard to raise awareness of the impact of our work through their fundraising campaign on JustGiving. Thanks to their efforts and the generosity of their network, they raised enough funds to adopt three schools in Gujarat – providing nourishing lunches to every pupil at their schools for an entire year.

SCALING THE MIGHTY THREE PEAKS

Our dedicated supporter Vimal took on the Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for Akshaya Patra. The family’s charitable foundation very generously committed to matching every gift that was raised on JustGiving.

Vimal successfully completed the exciting and demanding challenge – which entails climbing three of the highest peaks in the UK over a 24 hour period – Mount Snowden in Wales, Scaffel Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland. Thanks to his efforts and the generosity of his friends and family, Vimal raised an inspirational amount on JustGiving – over £20,500, which his family’s foundation then matched. This incredible, transformational gift to our Food For Education Programme enabled us to serve nourishing school lunches to over 4,000 children every day for a year.

CYCLING FROM TURIN TO MONTE CARLO

Our wonderful supporter Chikashi took on the Turin to Monte Carlo cycling challenge to support our work. This epic challenge covered 292 miles of distance, and 11,700 meters of climbs, encompassing some of the most challenging mountain passes featured in previous professional cycle race routes.

Chikashi has visited India many times over the past 30 years, and passionately believes in the power of education to positively impact the lives of the children there, which led him to support our Food For Education Programme. By completing this challenge, Chikashi raised well over £11,000 - enabling over 1,100 children to receive nourishing school lunches and to access the lifelong gift of education.
